In June 2001 Ex Libris and the ABLE™ Partnership announced the joint development of an information interface between the ALEPH 500 library management system and the ABLE library binding system. Using the ABLE/Ex Libris binding interface, it is possible to automate binding preparation, to eliminate errors and manual re-keying, and to instantly update the status of an entire binding shipment-all via the Internet. Shared customers, of these two companies, are now able to move data back and forth between the two systems automatically.

ABLE has been in successful operation for the past twelve years and is used by major binderies in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan. More than 400 libraries use the ABLE Library component. The system can read and write in the two leading formats used by library binders-ABLE and LARS.

In June 2003 Ex Libris and Net Snippets™, a leading provider of personal and collaborative research information management solutions, announced a technology integration and cooperation agreement to provide a comprehensive solution for personal and collaborative information management. By integrating Net Snippets into the Ex Libris line of products, on-line researchers interested in saving metadata records can drag these directly into the Net Snippets personal information management application, on their browser. Records saved in Net Snippets maintain their underlying structure and include non-visual components such as an OpenURL.

The Net Snippets software enables on-line researchers to collect, save, and annotate different types of content from a variety of sources and organize it into one hierarchical filing system right in their browser. Using a simple drag-and-drop interface, a researcher can instantly transfer text, imagens, and entire files-such as PDF, Word, and multimedia files-into Net Snippets and save them along with the source information, the researcher's comments, and metadata information that the researcher records. Colleagues can easily share snippets of content and entire folders and effortlessly generate bibliographies in a variety of styles, such as MLA and APA.
